Craig from Little Creek Cattle Company is a busy man, but amongst farming, managing production, orders, deliveries and his Coldstream butcher shop he still managed to take some time to have a chat and introduce us to some of his beautiful Red Angus cows.
A beautifully peaceful part of the Yarra Valley, the rolling green hills kept the local livestock quietly nibbling away, well besides the flock of geese next door!

We were greeted by Craig’s father who has been working on the Seville property since 1962. Little Creek Cattle uses a total conception to consumption beef program, meaning they raise and butcher the product, supplying locally to both restaurants and the general public. Part of a family cooperative encompassing Killara Rise Lamb and Berkshire paddock pigs in the Limestone Valley near Yea, a regular feature at farmers markets around Melbourne, Little Creek also have an online store and butchers shop in Coldstream.

Standing amongst the high green grass by the infamous Little Creek, it felt we couldn’t be further from the issues of rural drought and the unsustainable demands for meat that are pressuring Australian agriculture. Reducing our food miles by buying locally supports smaller producers like Craig to keep biological farming methods and supply a higher quality product that we have a better understanding of.
